Information

Most often, these are dilated and folded veins, protruding above the skin level. These protrusions are called varices. The patient comes most often due to them to the vascular specialists. There is a possibility even after correct operation to have new formation of varices. These veins are named Recurrence of Varices. Like the damaged lateral branches, the recurrences are eliminated by phlebectomy too.

Preparation
Procedure is done at ambulatory. No special preparation is necessary. Depilation of lower extremities is recommended as well as of inguinal region. Wide, comfortable clothes are preferable due to the dressings. The surgeon draws the protruding veins above the skin, which shall be eliminated.

Procedure
It is carried out under local anesthesia. Lidocaine combined with Noradrenalin are injected to reduce bleeding. This guarantees the painless and almost bloodless procedure. Through mini 1-2 mm incisions, the veins are taken out on the surface of skin and eliminated by special hooks.

Dressing is placed after procedure, which by rule is taken on the next day. In rare cases it is necessary to place compress dressings for a certain period of time. After the operation, the patient is mobile immediately and in most cases is able to work. Taking of bath is allowed on the next day.

Risks and undesirable effects
The risks in phlebectomy are minimum one. Small hematomas, staining and hardening  are noticed most often, which disappear in the next days from themselves. Damage of skin nerves is possible, which are restored within several weeks. No cosmetic defects are observed. Infections or thrombosis are observed in rare cases.
