Dr. Nikolay Milushev, urologist at "Vita" Hospital: The CITIUS software makes us physicians of the 21st century!
Dear Dr. Milushev, what is your opinion of the specialized medical software CITIUS?
Dr. Milushev: This program eased us tremendously in our everyday practice. In all cases of kidney stones a chemical analysis of the expelled stone is made and by CITIUS the metabolism of the patient is analyzed. After summarizing the data I prepare the therapeutic diet plan and an estimate of recurrence. I use CITIUS in renal stone disease.
How does CITIUS help you in your practice?
Dr. Milushev: It helps me diagnose the cause of stone formation and better motivate myself in front of the patient to why he/she should follow a diet and eat certain foods and avoid others. In certain cases besides total calcium study, after recommendation of the software a study of the ionized calcium is made looking for calcium metabolism disorders and their causes.
The CITIUS software provides academic diagnosis and simultaneously illustrates to the doctor the activity of the patient. I believe that patients should be well informed in order to assist the physician at their max. Nobody can be treated if one is not sensitive to the treatment!
For how long have you been using the software?
For about a year. Prior to working with it I was doing my own tables with diets for different kinds of stones. I collected information from practical guides of phytotherapeutists (Peter Dimkov M.D., Pamukov M.D., etc..) and I did a short synthesis of the recommended diet and phytotherapy as well as optimal hydration for different types of lithiasis. Now CITIUS does it for me. This is a program that has a huge database, which makes an individual assessment of each patient and recommends the best diet specifically for him.
Just as a joke, the use of CITIUS brought the academic side to my practice and I no longer practice as an ordinary herbalist.
You say you show your methods of diagnosis and treatment to each of your patients. Do they always understand? And people who do not work with computers and software?
Dr. Milushev: Our profession is long ago not shrouded in secrecy. I have given CITIUS in a flash drive or a CD to patients to install it by themselves and thus control themselves if they want to. I print their metabolic assessment and therapeutic plan and diet on paper. It says it all - what medications and supplements to take, what to eat and which foods are allowed. Patients need this! They must understand the meaning of their actions to be motivated and help the doctor to control their disease!
Do you think that the software should be available for use only by doctors?
Dr. Milushev: Absolutely not. I approve the fact that CITIUS is available on your website in the "For Doctors" section (editor's note. Http://www.bkb.bg/за-лекари/калкулатор) and you do not need to defend CITIUS with password. An informed patient is sufficiently reasonable to assess the complexity of the issues and seek specialist’s advice. We doctors are the ones who will transfer patients in the recesses of science, but it is not necessary to carry on their backs. Through the knowledge they receive from us and from your site, they feel relaxed and confident in the correctness of their treatment!
Would you recommend CITIUS to your colleagues and why?
Dr. Milushev: Naturally, I recommend it most strongly. This software will save them time and effort and will make them feel like doctors from the 21st and not from the 19th century!
