General information
The pathohistological laboratory performs cytological and histological examinations. It is a unit within clinical operations, linked to diagnostics during and after surgical intervention. It receives tissue samples requiring urgent diagnosis during surgery (the so-called frozen section), and based on the result, clinicians determine the scope of the surgical procedure.
Most often, this happens when there is a suspicion of a malignant tumor — if its presence is confirmed, radical surgery is performed, avoiding a two-stage intervention, which would cause significant trauma to the patient.
