General information

Gastroenterology is a branch of medicine concerned with the abdominal organs of the digestive system. It focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the oesophagus, stomach, small and large intestine, liver, gallbladder, and pancreas.

Gastroenterology is part of the larger field of medicine known as Internal Medicine. It studies the way the gastrointestinal tract functions - the movement of food through the stomach and intestines, the process of digestion and absorption of substances by the body, the elimination of waste substances, and the role of the liver in the mechanism of food processing.

In fact, any health deviation or disease of the digestive organs is the subject of investigation and treatment by gastroenterology.

Diagnostics and Examinations

In addition to clinical examinations and ultrasound investigations, gastroenterologists also perform endoscopic examinations under anaesthesia in a hospital setting - gastroscopy and colonoscopy. During these examinations, the interior of the stomach and intestines is examined using specialised instruments - a gastroscope and colonoscope - and surgical procedures are performed, including the collection of material for histological examination in order to reach an accurate diagnosis.

MBAL VITA possesses the best modern equipment, allowing physicians to demonstrate the highest level of professionalism in diagnosis and treatment.
