Cholelithiasis is a chronic disease that is characterized by the formation of stones (gallstones) in the gall bladder and bile ducts. It is almost four times more common among women, especially those with overweight.
In need of surgery, the operation which is performed in patients with gallstones is called cholecystectomy. It can be conventional (open) or laparoscopic (bloodless).
