Information

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a surgical intervention, which became popular as bloodless, in which through small holes of 10 and 5 mm the gall bladder is extirpated. The indications for this type of operation are:

1. Cholelithiasis with periodic crisis.

2. Chronic, acute or chronic exacerbated cholecystitis.

3. Acute pancreatitis of biliary etiology, known also as biliopancreatitis, in remission stage.

4. Choledoholithiasis, where prior to the operation the calculi from the biliary canal are extirpated by endoscopic mode.

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is carried out under general anesthesia and therefore in case of contraindications for general anesthesia, it is impossible to do it.

The Health Fund does not cover the consumables for laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Examinations are necessary for the operation, which can be done at “Vita” Diagnostic and Consulting Center. The surgical intervention lasts 35 to 80 minutes, depending on the severity of biliary bladder inflammation. Hospitalization after the operation is 24 to 48 hours and still on the 12th hour it is permitted to administer liquids and light food like biscuits and pretzel sticks. Post-operative pain is tolerable and is within the initial 24 hours.

The patients recover their normal social activity till the 48th hour after the operation. People, dealing with mental activity, may return on the 10th day to their professional engagements. For the patients, dealing mainly with physical labour, this activity can be restored between the 20th and 25th day.

Definite diet is observed in the initial 30 days and then the diet is almost free.

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is done by highly qualified surgeons at “Vita” Multidisciplinary Hospital for Active Treatment.
