The main reason for its appearance is genetically predisposed insufficiency of the venous wall, which gradually changes its structure and looses its strength. Insufficiency of venous valves arises ad reflux (insufficiency) results, which leads to dilation of superficial veins. The lesion combines with hernia, hemorrhoids and/or flat soles. Some other factors play role for development of varices like past pregnancy or occupational burdening, due to prolonged work at upright position.
The lesion is chronic and progresses slowly. In the beginning, the lesion progresses asymptomatically.
The most frequent complaints on behalf of the patient are severity, sense of tension, tiredness, formication, edema, pain in affected extremities, especially at prolonged upright position or at sitting, night cramps in legs, accompanied with itching. In the complicated cases may have thrombophlebitis, edemas, skin eczemas and venous wounds.
Treatment is by medication and surgical (stripping)
