"Vita" Hospital launches colon laparoscopic surgery. For diagnostic purposes it has also created a special endoscopic sector, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gabriela Manova, where full video endoscopic examinations of the esophagus, stomach, small and large intestines are carried out (gastroscopy, colonoscopy polypectomy, etc.).
Longitudinal studies show that 90% of patients with cancer of the colon and rectum are over 50 years old. The disease represents some 14% of all tumors. Annually patients diagnosed with colon cancer in Europe are about 400 000. For Bulgaria the number is over 4600, as every year these number is growing.
The Surgical ward of "Vita" now offers laparoscopic surgery in diverticulitis and diverticulosis, colon cancer and rectal cancer. Operations are carried out by the hospital surgical team headed by Dr. Rosen Toushev - Head of Department of Surgery, together with Dr. Vladislav Jankov - a specialist in colorectal surgery and oncology.
