The moisture of the female genital organs is considered normal within certain limits. Normal vaginal content does not leak through the vulva. It is white in color and has a paste-like consistency. Increased discharge secretion is referred to as fluor. The discharge can be watery, thick, foamy, whitish, yellowish, bloody, etc. Sometimes it is accompanied by a feeling of irritation, itching, or heaviness in the pelvis.

Genital fluor can be due to various underlying diseases. The causative agents can be protozoa, fungi, bacteria, viruses. The balance of the vaginal ecosystem is very delicate, unstable, and can easily be disrupted by external and internal factors. The most common source of genital fluor is the vagina. Normal vaginal content is 1-2 g, it is semi-liquid, paste-like. With inflammatory changes, the balance between transudation and resorption of the liquid component of the vaginal content is disturbed, it increases and begins to leak out, wetting the vulva and staining underwear.

The vagina has a brilliantly created natural biological protective mechanism that prevents infection from penetrating into the upper parts of the female genital tract. Physiologically, this mechanism weakens during menstruation. Other factors can also weaken it: insufficient closure of the vulva (birth trauma, prolapse), poor hygiene, foreign bodies, frequent and inadequate vaginal douching, hormonal disturbances, antibiotic therapy, severe hormonal deficiency (menopause, surgical removal of the ovaries), and other factors.

Methods for examining the vaginal environment:
1. Bacterioscopic examination of vaginal cleanliness - microscopic examination of a vaginal smear.
2. Culture testing: cultures on special nutrient media, which allow accurate identification of the causative microorganism.

The increase in white discharge can also be due to causes of a different nature. When drafting a treatment plan, we must take into account the topography of the fluor and the cause of the increased secretion, and isolate, if possible, the microbiological causative agent. Only then will the treatment be effective.
