Information

Spasm of microcirculation is observed, which causes ischemia of one or more fingers of the hand.

The reasons may be multiple – increased sympathicus tonus, existence of cryoglobulins or immune complexes in blood, hormonal disorders, increased sensitivity to cold, etc.

Typical vascular crisis are provoked by cold or emotional stress. Whitening of fingers or their finite phalanges is noticed, they become icy cold and separate by a sharp border from the blood supplied tissues. Sensory sensitivity of affected fingers is strongly reduced and they become completely insensitive. The status lasts from several minutes to an hour and usually is noticed livid colouration of fingers or reaction of hyperemia develops on the ischemic fingers, which become bright red, warm and painful. By fading down of reddening, the normal sensitivity and motor activity of the affected fingers is restored.

With advancing of lesion the described crisis become more frequent, edema appears, stinging pain, and the livid colouration persists. Gradually the skin become atrophic (becomes thin, glittering and dry). Nails deform, become brittle, severe changes result on the extreme phalanges, and gangrene of fingers may develop in the most severe cases.

Vascular consultation is compulsory.

Treatment is by medicines and surgically.
