Thyrotoxicosis is increased content of thyroidal hormones /thyroxin/ in blood and tissues, being the reason for disorders in metabolism and functions of organisms. Basedow’s disease is the most frequent. People from all ages suffer, and the correlations of women:men is 6:1. This is organ-specific autoimmune lesions in which the function of thyroid gland is durably stimulated by specific antibodies. There is hereditary encumbrance and psychic stress and infectious factors are important for manifestation of this lesion. The first clinical symptoms are on behalf of the nervous system – emotional instability, increased nervousness, depression, perspiration, trembling of hands. There are complaints of palpitation, “intermission” of heart, easy tiredness and muscular weakness, reduction of body mass at increased appetite, diarrhea, increased temperature, menstruation disorders. It could be found arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus and osteoporosis. Diagnosis is established from increased thyroid hormones and echographic examination. Therapy is by drugs. At no effect or high degree struma it could be necessary surgical treatment.
