Information

It is an inflammatory process of perinasal cavities, developing more often as complication in infections of upper respiratory tract and more rare – primary. Headache, lassitude, easy tiredness, more often subfebrile temperature are the specific symptoms. Headache is daily, obstinate, in the area of affected sinuses:
- frontal – at frontal sinusitis
- in the area below the eyes – at maxillary sinusitis.
- occipital – at affection of maxillary sinuses
- in the area of internal ocular angle (most often in children)- at ethmoid sinusitis.

It may cover also more than one area depending on dissemination of inflammatory process. It is accompanied with heaviness at bending of head, the nose is obstructed, secretions are dense, separating difficult, usually purulent or purulent-bloody.  They seep back to the throat, provoking unpleasant irritation. Edema and erythema may appear in affected areas.

After examination, upon evaluation, bacteriological examination is carried out of nasal secretion, X-ray, which assists the correct diagnosis and therapy. Antibiotic is the drug of choice in sinusitis. At sufficient dose and administered for sufficient time, it provides complete healing. Usually the treatment continues within ten days. It is combined with physiotherapeutic procedures, anesthetics, anticongestants, general restoratives.

Puncture is carried out at local introduction of antibiotic at retention of pus in sinus (maxillary).

Chronification of process results at incorrect therapy (self - treatment) with periodic exacerbations, sometimes undertaking surgical treatment.
