Admission to the Maternity Ward - What Do You Need to Bring?

General information

If you are not monitoring your pregnancy at the Women's Consultation of VITA Hospital but would like to entrust us with the birth of your baby, we recommend booking an appointment with one of our specialists no later than the 36th gestational week. This will allow us to monitor your condition, familiarize ourselves with your medical history related to the pregnancy, and discuss any questions you may have together.

The preparation and delivery at MBAL VITA is handled by highly qualified medical staff with many years of experience, who care for our patients around the clock - pregnant women, mothers in labor, and newborns.

For admission, you will need to prepare personal documents and medical documentation related to your health and tests performed during pregnancy, as follows:

• Identity card
• Referral for delivery (Ministry of Health and NHIF Form No. 7) and an outpatient record from the same date, which can be issued by a general practitioner, a specialist from outpatient care (including a physician who has not signed a contract with the NHIF), following referral from Emergency Services, or following admission to the Emergency Department of Vita Hospital
• Results of tests performed:
  • Blood type test, which will be confirmed with a new test at Vita Hospital
  • The latest complete blood count from 34-36 gestational weeks
  • The latest microbiological examination of vaginal secretions
  • Tests for infectious diseases: Wassermann (Syphilis) from the last 3 months, HIV1/2 and HBsAg performed within the last 6 months
  • Specialist consultation if there are accompanying diseases
  • In case of allergies - a prior consultation with an allergist specialist and presented medical documentation
• Marriage certificate if applicable (with a certified translation if the marriage was contracted abroad)

The birth package for expectant mothers includes:

• Consultation with an internist/cardiologist - including an ECG (electrocardiogram) before delivery (this usually takes place on the day of admission to the Maternity Ward). Performed mainly for patients who will have a planned Caesarean section, as well as for women with a complex medical history.
• Consultation with an anesthesiologist before delivery - the anesthesiologist reviews the health condition of the patient and her baby, and the expectant mother has the opportunity to ask all questions related to anesthesia
• Gynecological examination - diagnostic ultrasound, and fetal heart rate monitoring on the day of admission
• Delivery - natural or by Caesarean section depending on medical indications
• Pain relief during labor - if necessary or desired by the mother
• Rh immunoglobulin injection - if required
• Daily medical visits - monitoring of the mother's recovery by an obstetrician-gynecologist after delivery
• Psychological consultation
• Two follow-up examinations of the mother within 30 days - with the physician who delivered the baby (arranged in advance with them) or another physician

The birth package includes round-the-clock medical care for the newborn in the Neonatology Department.

Expectant mothers are accommodated in single or double rooms in the Maternity Ward, which are equipped with:

• Private bathroom (bath and toilet)
• Hospital call system for signaling the on-duty medical staff
• Air conditioning
• Television with cable TV
• Unlimited wireless internet
• Bed linen and towels
• Breakfast, lunch, and dinner

All necessary consumables and hygiene materials for the stay are provided for the mother and baby.

For planned Caesarean sections, women are admitted to the Maternity Ward on the second floor of VITA Hospital the day before the scheduled surgical delivery. The examinations and tests prescribed by the obstetrician-gynecologist are carried out. Mothers should not consume food the evening before the operation, and should not consume water or food in the morning.
