The material for the HPV-PCR test is taken from the area being tested for the viral infection. This test is usually used to diagnose HPV infections in the genital or anal area, but it can also be used for other areas of the body depending on the clinical scenario.
Conditions and requirements for taking material from the genital area:
For women - Taking a cervical secretion sample using a brush/dry swab.
The test is performed between day 8 and day 20 of the menstrual cycle. The use of vaginal douches, tampons, and vaginal medications is not recommended for at least 48 hours before sampling.
For men - Taking a urethral secretion sample using a dry swab. The patient should be advised in advance not to urinate for at least 1-3 hours before the procedure.
