I want a preventive examination

Caring for your health begins before symptoms appear.

When it comes to breast health, time is the most important factor. Most conditions are fully treatable when detected in time, and that is exactly why routine examinations are the surest step toward your peace of mind.

At Vita Breast Unit, we believe that effective prevention should not follow standard templates. There is no single universal approach. Your age, family history, breast density, individual risk, and genetic factors shape your unique profile. That is why we do not simply examine you - we build a personalized plan for your health.

What does our preventive approach include?

Prevention is a combination of examinations, imaging studies, and individual risk assessment, aimed at:

  • Early detection of breast diseases
  • Identifying women at increased risk
  • Preparing a personalized follow-up plan
  • Reducing risk through lifestyle changes and preventive measures, where possible

Our goal is not just to detect disease in time, but to help you preserve your health in the long term.

Which women should be examined?

Every woman deserves to know her individual risk of breast cancer. Prevention does not begin with the first mammogram - it begins with risk assessment.

Modern international recommendations encourage an initial assessment of personal and family risk factors at a young age. In women with a hereditary predisposition or other risk factors, this allows timely referral for genetic counseling, personalized prevention, and an individual follow-up plan.

We recommend a risk assessment for:

  • All women up to 25 years of age: every woman should know her family history and individual risk factors. The initial risk assessment does not mean an imaging study, but a conversation with a specialist, an analysis of personal and family history, and a determination of whether further follow-up is necessary.
  • All women over 40 years of age: after the age of 40, preventive examinations and imaging studies become a core part of the early detection of breast cancer. The type and frequency of the examinations are determined individually.
  • Women at increased risk, regardless of age.

Personalized risk assessment and specialized follow-up are recommended if:

  • You have a mother, sister, daughter, or other close relatives with breast, ovarian, pancreatic, or prostate cancer
  • You are a carrier of a hereditary genetic mutation (for example BRCA1, BRCA2, PALB2, CHEK2, ATM, or others)
  • You have dense breasts
  • You have had atypical ductal or lobular hyperplasia (ADH/ALH) or lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS)
  • You have a history of previous breast biopsies
  • You have undergone radiation therapy to the chest area at a young age
  • You wish to find out what your individual risk is and how it can be reduced

What examinations are suitable for me?

Not every woman needs the same examinations.

After a consultation with a mammologist, a personalized plan will be prepared according to your age, risk profile, and the structure of your breast tissue.

The possible examinations include:

  • Consultation with a mammologist - detailed history, clinical examination, and risk assessment.
  • Breast ultrasound - the preferred method in younger women, as well as for the diagnosis of various benign changes.
  • 3D mammography with tomosynthesis - a modern method for screening and early detection of breast cancer, especially after the age of 40.
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) - recommended for certain groups of women at increased risk, carriers of genetic mutations, or for specific clinical indications.
  • Genetic counseling and testing - in the presence of a family history or other criteria for hereditary risk.
  • Personalized risk assessment - we use internationally validated risk assessment models to determine your individual risk and the most appropriate follow-up strategy.

What will you receive after the examination?

After the consultation, you will not simply receive a test result. You will receive:

  • An explanation of the results in understandable language
  • An assessment of your individual risk
  • A recommendation for the most appropriate examinations
  • A plan for future follow-up
  • If necessary - referral to specialists from the multidisciplinary team of Vita Breast Unit

Don't know where to start?

You do not need to decide on your own whether you need an ultrasound, mammogram, MRI, or genetic test.
Book a consultation with a mammologist. After the examination, we will prepare a personalized plan tailored to your age, risk factors, and individual needs.
