Dr. Iliya Karagyozov graduated in Medicine from the Medical University – Sofia in 1994. From 1995 to 1998, he worked as a clinical resident in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at SBALAG “Maichin Dom,” where he also completed his specialization in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
From 1998 to 2006, he served as a senior assistant in the same department. In 2009, he obtained an additional specialization in General and Abdominal Surgery after training at the First Surgical Clinic of UMBAL “Alexandrovska” under the guidance of Prof. Radoslav Gaydarski and Prof. Violeta Dimitrova.
Between 2006 and 2018, Dr. Karagyozov was Head of the Department of General and Operative Gynecology, Pelvic Surgery, and Obstetrics at Tokuda Hospital – Sofia. In 2016, he earned a Doctorate (PhD) in General Surgery. Since 2018, he has been Head of the Gynecology Department at VITA Hospital, and in 2020 he was awarded the academic title of Associate Professor in General Surgery.
Dr. Karagyozov has over 30 publications in Bulgarian and international scientific journals (Germany, Hungary, North Macedonia, United Kingdom) and actively participates as a lecturer at national and international congresses, conferences, and symposia.
In 2007, he introduced laser excisional surgery in outpatient settings for precancerous conditions of the female genital system in Bulgaria (laser conization). In 2017, he published the monograph “CO2-Laser Colposcopic Surgery in Outpatient Settings: A Practical Guide for Obstetricians-Gynecologists and Oncogynecologists.”
His professional interests focus on the early diagnosis of oncological diseases of the female reproductive system, radical oncogynecological, and extended pelvic surgery.
Dr. Karagyozov is fluent in English and German.
