Prof. Dr. Plamen Kinov, MD, PhD has been part of the team at VITA Hospital since November 2025, as Head of the Clinic of Orthopedics and Traumatology.
Prof. Kinov is among the leading specialists in the field of orthopedics and traumatology in Bulgaria. He graduated with distinction from the Higher Medical Institute of Pleven in 1995, and from the very beginning of his career dedicated himself to the development of modern methods for the treatment of diseases and injuries of the musculoskeletal system.
His professional path is closely linked to University Hospital "Tsaritsa Yoanna - ISUL", Sofia, where since 1999 he has worked as an assistant, and later as Head of the Endoprosthetics Sector (2010) and Head of the Clinic of Orthopedics and Traumatology (from 2013).
In 2007, he defended a doctoral dissertation on the topic "Aseptic Loosening of Hip Arthroplasty", and in 2010 was habilitated as Associate Professor. Since 2020, he has been Head of the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at the Medical University of Sofia.
Prof. Kinov is Chairman of the Sofia Branch of the Bulgarian Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology (BOTA) and Treasurer of BOTA.
He is a member of numerous national and international organizations, including BOTA, the Union of Scientists in Bulgaria (USB), EFORT, AAOS, and EHS.
Among his distinctions are the World Award Abdel Hay Mashhour (SICOT, 2005) and the award of the 10th Congress of BOTA (2007).
He has over 200 scientific publications, actively participates in international congresses, and has completed specializations at leading European and American clinics in Germany, Austria, Italy, and the USA.
His professional interests are focused on knee and hip joint endoprosthetics, minimally invasive and revision endoprosthetics, joint-preserving surgery, surgical treatment of fractures, preoperative surgical planning, treatment of coxarthrosis, gonarthrosis, and osteoporosis.
Prof. Kinov is fluent in English and has working knowledge of Russian, German, Italian, and French.
