The Neonatology Department of MBAL VITA has a level of competence that meets all current requirements for good medical practice in accordance with the Medical Standard for Neonatology.

The department conducts daily rounds for healthy newborns, and for children in intensive care - as many times as necessary within 24 hours. The neonatologist is in daily contact with the parents, providing detailed and comprehensive information about the child's condition, with unlimited access provided to mothers to their children in intensive care in the incubator. They stay there until the acute phase of the illness is controlled, and after the condition stabilizes, they are transferred to a bed. Their hospital stay continues until full normalization of clinical and laboratory parameters.

In cases of lung diseases with severe respiratory failure requiring long-term mechanical ventilation, or multidisciplinary diagnosis of congenital and/or surgical conditions, the child is transferred to a University Clinic of Neonatology or a specialized cardiology or surgical clinic. Transport is carried out in the presence of a neonatologist from Hospital VITA.

All diagnostic-treatment medical activities and vaccinations are carried out only after the mandatory signing of informed consent by the parents. All newborns undergo the immunizations mandatory for their age, in accordance with the National Immunization Calendar, as well as a hearing screening, and, if needed, transfontanellar and abdominal ultrasound.

Highly qualified midwives also participate every minute in the round-the-clock care of the mother and baby. We pay special attention to encouraging and achieving exclusive breastfeeding. It is known that mother's milk is the best food for the newborn and young infant, providing not only all necessary nutrients but also growth factors, hormones, immunoglobulins - substances of immunity, including the hormone of happiness. It has been proven that breastfed children grow up not only healthier, but also happier and more confident adults. In the absence of contraindications on the part of the mother, all children in intensive care are mandatorily fed mother's milk.

Before discharge from Hospital VITA, the midwives introduce the mother to the daily care of the child, showing them how to perform the baby's hygiene routine, including bathing, umbilical cord care, skin care, diaper changes, and, last but not least - care of the mother's mammary glands.

Apart from the birth fee, during the stay parents do not pay extra for medications and consumables related to the care of the mother and baby. Our goal is to make the birth and the stay in the department a truly calm, happy, exciting, and memorable moment.

The team carrying out the diagnostics, treatment, and care of newborns includes neonatologists, midwives, clinical and microbiological physicians and laboratory technicians, a radiologist, and a clinical psychologist.

The department operates around the clock. The newborn units are located in close proximity to the delivery and operating room, as well as the rooms in which mothers are accommodated. The principle of child care is decentralized, i.e. healthy newborns are raised and cared for in the mother's room.

The Neonatology Department is fully equipped with highly specialized equipment and consumables for intensive care, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases of the respiratory, digestive, cardiovascular, and excretory systems, as well as for prevention and treatment of maternal-fetal infections and various forms of jaundice in the newborn child. We have 3 intensive incubators, monitors for tracking vital signs, perfusors for parenteral nutrition, LED lamps for phototherapy.
