Information
Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure performed on the upper and lower eyelids. It is one of the most popular surgical interventions, not only among women but also among men.
Blepharoplasty permanently removes the tired look and feeling of heaviness in the eyelids. It involves removing the sagging skin and excess fat deposits above the eyes and tightening the loosened muscles, which gives the face a fresher, more youthful appearance. One of the great advantages is that the result of the surgery is long-lasting. Almost no patients report pain after the surgery.
Who is blepharoplasty suitable for?
All healthy patients are suitable candidates for the procedure, and they are usually over 35 years of age, although there are cases of genetically predisposed people with excess skin in the upper eyelid area for whom this surgery is necessary and can be performed before this age. Blepharoplasty is not suitable for patients with high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, glaucoma, Graves' disease, or dry eyes that are not therapeutically controlled. It is important that the patient not take aspirin for at least ten days before the surgery.
How does the surgery proceed?
When correcting the upper eyelids, the excess skin and fat pockets are removed, with the incision remaining hidden in the eyelid crease, so that the procedure remains discreet to the people around you. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and requires a minimal hospital stay of 24 hours.
The intervention is tailored to the individual characteristics of each patient. Therefore, exactly what can be done in your case will be discussed during the consultation. At that point, you will have the opportunity to ask your surgeon in detail about the surgical techniques and methods that would give the best possible and most aesthetic result.
Recovery period
After the surgery, you will not have a bandage over your eyes. Your vision may be slightly blurred from the anesthesia, so it is recommended that you not drive during the first 24 hours after the surgery. The stitches will be removed after a few days, since the eyelid skin heals extremely quickly.
The bruising and swelling will decrease significantly within two weeks. For the first few days, it is best to sleep on your back with the upper part of your body slightly elevated. If you wear contact lenses, do not put them in for 7 to 10 days after the surgery.
After eyelid surgery, makeup is not allowed for seven days, and it is also recommended to avoid direct sun exposure without sunglasses for about one month. To maintain the effect of the blepharoplasty, suitable, hydrating skin cosmetics are recommended.
After your surgery is completed, you will also receive complete and detailed verbal and written instructions covering all aspects and concerns of your recovery.
