VITA Kids Takes Part in the National Conference on Emergency Pediatrics

Pediatricians and pediatric pulmonologists from VITA Kids took part in the 16th National Conference on Emergency Pediatrics. The forum was held from October 9 to 11 in Pomorie under the motto “Every Second. One Child’s Life”.

Dr. Natalia Gabrovska, MD, PhD - a pediatrician and pediatric pulmonologist - presented a report titled “Lung Transplantation in Childhood”, dedicated to one of the rare and highly specialized areas of modern pulmonary medicine.

How rare this procedure is in children is shown by the annual OPTN/SRTR report for the USA, published in 2026. In 2024, 3375 lung transplants were performed in adults and only 29 in children.

In children, care does not end with the transplant. Subsequent monitoring, tracking of the function of the transplanted organ, and adaptation of treatment are an essential part of long-term care. This requires close cooperation between the transplant team and pediatric pulmonologists, who know the patient and can provide follow-up in their usual treatment setting.

The participation of VITA Kids specialists in the conference is part of the professional exchange of knowledge and experience in pediatrics - a field in which early diagnosis, correct risk assessment, and good coordination between medical teams can be decisive for treating children with complex conditions.

The 16th National Conference on Emergency Pediatrics brought together medical professionals to discuss current issues and approaches in caring for the youngest patients. The motto “Every Second. One Child’s Life” emphasizes the importance of timely response, competent medical judgment, and teamwork for the sake of children’s health.
