The Maternity Ward and Neonatology Department are located on the same floor, providing additional convenience for mothers.
The Neonatology Department at VITA Hospital is a second level of competence and, when necessary, provides professional medical care for children born after the 30th gestational week, including intensive therapy and mechanical ventilation.
The length of stay at VITA Hospital varies and depends on the health condition of the mother and the baby. Discharge usually takes place three days after a normal delivery and four days after a Caesarean section.
In the first two hours after birth, the baby is closely monitored in the delivery room, after which it is admitted to the Neonatology Department.
The rooms are equipped to allow the mother and newborn to stay together, if the condition of both allows. The team takes into account the mother's wishes and her need for rest, as well as the health condition of the newborn.
During the stay, the mother and newborn are consulted by other specialists from the multi-profile hospital when necessary.
The team at VITA Hospital supports breastfeeding. The midwives of the Maternity Ward show mothers how to feed their baby and assist them when difficulties with breastfeeding arise.

During the stay, newborns are immunized with the mandatory vaccines against Hepatitis B and tuberculosis. In case of refusal of vaccination, a declaration from a parent is required.
Neonatal screening for genetic diseases is also performed.
VITA Hospital is equipped with a state-of-the-art device for the timely diagnosis of hearing impairment in newborns.
Upon request, the Neonatology Package "Ultrasound Screening of the Newborn" can be purchased, which includes:
- transfontanelle ultrasound
- ultrasound of abdominal organs
- ultrasound examination of the hip joints to rule out congenital or induced hip dysplasia in newborns
Usually the mother and newborn are discharged together, unless an extension of the stay is required due to ongoing treatment.
The medical documents of the mother are prepared in the Maternity Ward, and those of the baby in the Neonatology Department. The newborn is dressed and handed over to the father in the discharge hall on the second floor.
The sick leave certificate for the mother/father is issued by the medical secretary of the Maternity Ward. Medical documents (including discharge summaries) are issued and handed to the mother upon leaving the department.
