A very common condition is hydrocele - the presence of fluid around the testis, causing it to appear larger than the other one. The cause is that the canal through which the testis descends into the scrotum does not close spontaneously, as it does in all children by the age of one. Warm fluid from the abdomen passes along the unclosed canal and fills the space around the testis, thereby disrupting its proper functioning.

If the problem does not resolve spontaneously by the age of one year to one year and three months, it needs to be corrected surgically. This, again as with cryptorchidism, is performed using an atraumatic and aesthetically favorable technique through a skin fold, with the child having normal activity the very same day and no visible scar from the surgical correction.
